The definition of a surgeon competent to perform pituitary tumor surgery is defined by the following (The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism; 87(9), 4054-4058, Sept. 2002):

•  A record of peer-reviewed publications of surgical results encompassing both endocrine and surgical evaluation and follow up.

•  Assisted at more than 100 pituitary operations while in training.

•  Performs more than 25 pituitary tumor operations per year as a qualified surgeon.

Success of surgery is highly dependent on the skill and expertise of the surgeon as stated above. Experienced surgeons are responsible for improved surgical outcomes and reduced incidence of surgical complications.
